St Ives Guide

If you are visiting St Ives in one of our camper vans this page should help you make the most of it.

St Ives is a very busy town and anyone who has been will know that parking is not easy, especially during peak season. Though there are many car parks they all tend to fill up quickly. The best we find is the station car park, turn right at the Malakov bus station as you are coming into town from Carbis Bay. The other alternative is the Leisure centre car park at the top of town, though prepare yourselves for those hills!

St Ives has a rigid one way system with some very narrow roads and plenty of tourists who are happy to amble in the middle of the road, so driving round in a camper can be pretty challenging particularly during the season. You do get to see all of the town in this one way system, including the lovely harbour, Tate St Ives and the stunning Porthmeor beach but you may want to wait for one of the quieter parts of the day and also when you are 100% confident on your van driving skills.

We would highly reccommend that if you are staying in St Ives that you book in at Ayr campsite:

www.ayrholidaypark.co.uk

It is a lovely well maintained campsite with picture perfect views of the town and sea. From here you can stroll down into town and visit the galleries, shops, restaurants and pubs. All our customers head here when visiting St Ives and all love it.

On the way into the town is a large Tescos store where you can stock up on supplies. Please note there are no petrol stations in St ives now the nearest is the St Erth station on the Penzance road, just off the main roundabout.

Highlights that we recommend in St Ives are -
The Sloop Inn - the oldest pub in the town and brimming with atmosphere www.sloop-inn.co.uk

The Barbara Hepworth & Tate Gallerries - www.tate.org.uk/
must see galleries which attract thousands of visitors to St Ives.

There are some great Past Shops and Bakeries on Fore Street ..we recommend you try them all to find your favourite!

Beaches: there are 4 beaches in St Ives the largest being Porthmeor which is great for surfing and bodyboarding. Porthminster beach is the second largest and is our favourite for bathing as it has fantastic views and lovely still water.

Everybody coming this way should try St Ives and you want to have at least 2 days there to see eveything.
